| Waterbury, CT--HSI is proud to announce their newest products, a Size 34 Hybrid External Linear Actuator and a Size 34 Hybrid Captive Linear Actuator. The rotating lead screw design uses a stainless steel acme lead screw, which is incorporated directly into the motor's rotor. Shaft to lead screw couplers are not needed with this design thus saving time, money and labor during application assembly. The external linear actuator replaces four different components - a motor, coupler, lead screw and nut.
The nut on the external linear actuator uses the same high performance engineering thermoplastics as the rotor drive nut of HSI's non-captive and captive designs. This feature ensures trouble free, exceptional long life operation for use in high precision applications. This external hybrid linear actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.0005" (.0127 mm) per step to 0.005" (.127 mm) per step and delivers thrusts of up to 500 lbs. without compromising long life or cost. A standard external linear has 6" of visible lead screw, however lead screw length and termination, as well as external nut design, can be customized to fit your application requirements. In this design, the lead screw is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. This is the best overall design approach for obtaining linear travel in confined spaces. The lead screw ends can be machined to allow the use of out-board bearing support for long lead screw lengths. 
Size 34 Captive Linear Actuators HSI is proud to introduce a Size 34 captive linear actuator, the latest addition to its growing hybrid motor line. Joining the other hybrid motors, the size 34 incorporates the same high performance and durable proven design. Taking advantage of 20 years of experience in the manufacturing of captive linear actuators in smaller sizes, HSI has adapted the technology developed with the can-stack motor to the hybrid design.. Similar to its non-captive relative, the patent pending high performance engineering thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut ensures trouble free, exceptional long life operations for use in high precision applications. A stainless steel splined shaft coupled to a stainless steel lead screw allows for precise motion control with resolutions ranging from 0.0005" (.0127 mm) per step to 0.005" (.127 mm) per step. Speeds exceed 3.0" (7.62 cm) per second and delivers forces up to 500 lbs. (227 Kg). The captive linear actuator is designed with an internal anti-rotation mechanism and is especially well suited for applications in which external anti-rotation methods would be difficult or impossible to employ. Captive linear travel requirements beyond a few inches may be impractical and the factory should be consulted in these cases to discuss the best solution for the application Applications Applications requiring precise positioning and rapid motion are best suited for these motors.
