Joining the other hybrid motors, the size 11 incorporates the same high performance and durable proven design. Built for long life (several million cycles) and superior performance, the size 11 captive linear actuator features engineering thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut and a stainless steel Acme lead screw, which has made the HSI products so popular. With this patented design, quiet and maintenance free operation are ensured. This captive hybrid linear actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.000125" (.003175 mm) to 0.002" (.0508 mm) per step and delivers thrusts of up to 25 lbs. (11.5 Kg) without compromising long life or cost. The captive linear actuator is designed with an HSI patented integral anti-rotation mechanism and is especially well suited for applications in which external anti-rotation methods would be difficult or impossible to employ. Captive linear travel requirements beyond a few inches may be impractical and the factory should be consulted in these cases to discuss the best solution for the application 
Size 11 External Linear Actuators The rotating stainless steel acme lead screw is incorporated into the motor's rotor. Shaft to lead screw couplings are not needed with this design, thus saving time, money and labor during assembly into the final application. HSI's external linear actuator replaces four different components - a motor, coupling, lead screw, and nut. The nut on the external linear actuator uses the same high performance engineering thermoplastics as the rotor drive nut of HSI's non-captive and captive designs. This feature ensures trouble free, exceptional long life operation for use in high precision applications. This external linear hybrid actuator is available in a wide variety of resolutions ranging from 0.000125" (.003175 mm) to 0.002" (.0508 mm) per step and delivers thrusts of up to 25 lbs. (11.5 Kg) without compromising long life or cost. A standard size 11 external linear has 4" of visible lead screw, however lead screw length, coil termination, and the external nut, can be customized to fit your application requirements. In this design, the lead screw is an integral part of the motor with a mating nut translating along the screw. As the motor steps, the lead screw rotates but does not advance. This is the best overall design approach for obtaining linear travel in confined spaces. The lead screw end can be machined to allow the use of out-board bearing support for long lead screw lengths.
