| Igus Energy Chain Cable Carriers Prove Good Things Do Come In Small Packages
East Providence, RI -- igus® Inc., a leading supplier of plastic cable carriers to house, protect and extend the service life of moving cables, offers customers a comprehensive line of Energy Chains® to choose from, including pint-size micro chains. These small cable carriers deliver all the benefits of a larger system in applications with tight space restrictions and small bending radii.
The Igus E2 micro series Energy Chains are among the smallest available on the market today. The dimensions start with an inner height of just .20 inches, an inner width of .203 and a minimum bend radius as low as .39 inches. These mini Energy Chains are ideal for a variety of applications, including measuring apparatus, horizontal and vertical sliding gates, medical engineering devices, electronic equipment, assembly robots, sensors, lift tables, X-Y tables, CNC cutters, ATM machines, automatic doors, plotters and printers, or any machinery using miniature data transmission supplies and bus cables or any tight space restriction.
The Energy Chains come in a diverse variety of design options to ensure accessibility to the cables. Many micro chains are equipped with molded cross bars, or a zipper top which consists of linked lids that can be opened like a zipper and snapped shut without using any tools. This design enables easy cable installation and removal while encasing the conduits entirely for protection against debris or contaminants.
Another line of small cable carriers, the E-Z Chain family, features a split crossbar along the outer or inner radius. It is comprised of two overlapping, flexible lids in which the cables can be pushed through or pulled out without requiring any tools. The lids retain their shape and position and continue to protect the cables housed within. This design provides the quickest access to cables, which is ideal for applications requiring fast assembly and disassembly such as automotive assembly machinery.
Other designs include crossbars that snap open on one end and have a film hinge on the other for fast, easy access to cables at any given point along the chain. This hinge construction is very cost effective and decreases assembly time.
Igus also offers a complete line of continuous-flex cables designed for use in an Energy Chain System®. Chainflex® cables are ideal for demanding flexing applications where a robust energy supply system is critical. Chainflex CF98 can meet the tightest space restrictions with a recommended bend radius of four times the outer diameter, the smallest of any Chainflex cable to date. The combination of CF98 with the igus Energy Chain Micro or E-Z series creates a complete Energy Chain System that can squeeze into any application.
Most small Energy Chains have one-piece plastic mounting brackets that simply snap onto the carrier and bolt directly to the machine. A bracket can be attached on the top, side or bottom of the machine due to its ability to pivot and the symmetrical hole pattern it employs, providing more options in tight spaces. A QuickSnap base plate is available upon request. The plate attaches directly to the machine instead of the standard mounting bracket so the entire assembly can slide in our out of the base for attachment or removal without using any tools. This is ideal for hard-to-reach or limited space areas, as well as for equipment that is frequently disconnected, moved and reconnected such as mobile medical devices or traveling amusement park machinery.
