| Ultra Motion's Interactive Web Site Lets You Build A Motion Control Linear Actuator And Evaluate The Performance
Mattituck, NY -- Specifiers of precision motion control linear actuators will benefit from the new interactive Web site launched by Ultra Motion, who specializes in the rapid delivery of custom, high precision linear actuators. By going on-line to http://www.ultramotion.com and selecting a motor and lead screw for the “Digit” series of linear actuators, or motor, lead screw, and belt-drive-ratio (1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1) for the “Bug” series, a Force/Speed Curve is generated. Being able to configure an actuator and evaluate it’s performance on-line saves time and takes the guesswork out of specifying an actuator to meet the requirements of an application.
A variety of Acme, ball, and zero backlash lead screws can be integrated with a broad selection of Stepper motors, DC servos, and “Smart” Steppers and Servos. Comprehensive outline drawings in various CAD formats and PDFs of the "Digit" and "Bug" linrear actuators, the nose, end, and mounting hardware aid in the integration of these compact and highly accurate, motion control linear actuators.
NASA recently specified an Ultra Motion linear actuator that would be used in a “Concept Apparatus” to evaluate a soil testing procedure for a future Mars mission. The high accuracy, high speed linear actuator met the JPL specifications and was delivered in less than two weeks! The overall length of these clean, reliable, and quiet actuators is only 7.18 inches (182.4 mm) longer than the stroke length and is available in stroke lengths of 2, 4 and 8 inches (51, 102, and 203 mm). Totally enclosed, these linear actuators can achieve an acceleration in excess of 23 m/sec2, a speed of 1 m/sec, provide up to 200 lbs of force (890 N), and repeatability to 1.5 microns. Home position sensing can be accomplished with either Reed switches or Hall effect sensors.
The operating temperature range is -40o F to 150o F (-40o C to 65o C). Special units can operate at cryogenic temperatures (77o K). A variety of mounting options, including stainless steel rod bearing clevises, trunnion mounts, and brackets allows easy integration into new and existing applications. Other available options include: Vacuum compatible (10-6 Torr), clean room compatible, internal linear potentiometer, and externally adjustable limit switches.
Ultra Motion can quickly build custom motion control linear actuators to meet requirements that their standard products cannot satisfy.
Ultra Motion is a manufacturer and supplier specializing in the rapid delivery of custom high precision electromechanical mini-linear actuators and matching controllers tailored to a specific requirement. Generating high forces, they are the ideal alternative to hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Typically, these clean and quiet, high performance mini-linear actuators are selected for low to moderate power applications when high precision and reliability are important requirements. Using state-of-the-art materials, they are lightweight and very cost effective.
